UNITY OF THE FAITH
In Ephesians 4, the apostle Paul says,
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Eph 4:11-14).
According to the Scriptures, in the last days the earth is going to be filled with “human cunning,” “craftiness,” “deceitful schemes,” and “every wind of doctrine” at levels unprecedented in the history of fallen humanity. Therefore, it is imperative, more than ever before, that church leaders and disciple-makers of every kind give themselves wholeheartedly to “building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.” The “unity of the faith” and the “knowledge of the Son of God” are vital components of a solid discipleship-foundation for any generation of believers. How much more vital, then, are these realities to the discipleship-foundation of those saints who will experience the most deceitful time the world has ever known?
What does Paul mean by the “unity of the faith”? What exactly is “the faith,” and how does it relate to “unity” and the “knowledge of the Son of God”? What do these realities have to do with becoming “mature”? How do they help us withstand the storms of deceit and falsehood? What do they look like practically in our homes, our relationships, and our churches? These are the types of questions we will be exploring in this conference. For those who can make it, we look forward to seeing you in St. Louis!
